Bridges Society of America Summer Session at the Boys and Girls of Long Beach, CA - Petrolane Center: Bridges Society of America (BSA) hosted a six week summer program for boys and girls club at the Petrolane Center of the Boys and Girls Club of Long Beach. The program consisted of a one hour workshop, every Monday, for six weeks. The sessions focused on professional development skills, time management, and appropriate social interactions with an emphasis on social media. As a closing activity, BSA facilitated a workshop which consisted of the students preparing over 100 brown bag lunches for the homeless population of Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles. Each student also received one hour of community service for their work.
1st Annual Bridges Society of America Founder's Cup Softball Game - Parade Park, Kansas City, MO: Bridges Society of America (BSA) hosted a softball game as a fundraiser for the activities and curriculum provided to the students that participate in the program. The teams were comprised of local professionals, including Chris Goode, Owner of Ruby Jean's Juicery, Melesa Johnson, Assitant Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney, Spencer Hardwick, teacher at Ewing Marion Kauffman School, Jonathan Platz, co-founder of Made Urban Apparel, as well as many other. We had a great time and thank all of those in attendance. We're looking forward to next year's game already.
Howard University Alumni Club of Kansas City and Bridges Society of America hosted The Black Film Fest: Bridges Society of America (BSA) partnered with the Howard University Alumni Club to host a one day film festival at the Gem Theater in the Historic 18th and Vine Jazz District of Kansas City. The movies shown were Imitation of Life, Coming to America, Love Jones, and Talk to Me. The proceeds from the festival were used to provide a Howard University student a scholarship for continued education as well as to further the mission of BSA.
E.B.O.D.I. Summit hosted by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. - San Diego Alumae Chapter with Bridges Society of America, Inc.: Bridges Society of America (BSA) joined the ladies of Delta Sigma Theta for the summit, and hosted a session on entrepreneurship. The summit took place at University of California San Diego and was geared towards high school aged young men. The session was facilitated by BSA President, Joss Tillard-Gates, along with BSA C.F.O. Toryan Smith, Youth Intellectual Movement Travels President, Jameson Davis, and special guest Kendall Reyes of the San Diego Chargers. The session split the young men into groups and gave them an opportunity to create a business, which the group would later present to the panel of facilitators. In the end, only one group was selected as the winner, but all of the students gained valuable knowledge and tools for creating their own business.
Bridges Society of America Meeting with guest speaker Jermaine Reed: As a Kansas City, Missouri native, Jermaine Reed came to share his experience with the group of students to illustrate the importance of perseverance and developing strong relationships. Reed is now the Councilman for Kansas City's 3rd District, which is a great example for these young men.
Bridges Society of America Etiquette Dinner at Brio Tuscan Grille: The purpose of the dinner was to give the student members of BSA a chance to put their social and dining etiquette in practice. This was also an opportunity for the students to network with area professionals.

Councilman Reed's Community Service Day at Community Linc: Community Linc has been providing fully furnished transitional housing for homeless families for the past 25 years. It also provides after school learning opportunities and activities for children of all ages. The day was spent cleaning the interior and exterior of the units, as well as moving furniture into several units. It was a great day of giving back in our community. Bridges Society of America participants include President Joss Tillard-Gates, Kansas City Chapter President Jess Thomas III, and Student Member Yakini Kassimu.

Meeting with Made Urban Apparel: Developing a plan of action. The creators of Kansas City based clothing line Made Urban Apparel joined the meeting as special guests to help stress the importance of planning in your life and career. Co-founder Joss Tillard-Gates and Kansas City Chapter President Jesse Thomas led the discussion.
